What a teacher teaches is recorded, and that record becomes the teacher's career
At the center of LevelKorean is not the student but the teacher. Teachers teach with LevelKorean materials, and students do the review that comes with those materials in the app. Who learned what, and how well, builds up line by line, and teachers use it to plan their next class.
After a year, that record becomes the teacher's track record. LevelKorean confirms from its records how many students you taught and how far those students progressed. For teachers who work on their own, the hardest thing to prove has always been "I taught, and my students improved." We want to show that in numbers.
More and more people around the world want to learn Korean, and in the end, it is one teacher who teaches them. Yet teachers, especially those who work on their own, have long faced three gaps.
LevelKorean fills these three gaps in one flow. When you teach with the materials, review follows, and when review is recorded, your next class and your track record grow together.
| What | What the teacher does | What LevelKorean does |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Teaching materials | Choose a lesson, put it on screen, and teach | Provides 128 teaching materials with slides, pronunciation audio, video, and pair activities |
| 2. Review that comes with the materials | Assign the lesson you taught to students | Has students do the review with the same lesson number in the app, and brings back wrong answers the next day |
| 3. AI that tracks student level | Open each student's page | Starting-level finder, accuracy by skill, 3-axis speaking scores, weekly AI learning analysis |
| 4. Assignments and feedback | Assign a specific lesson or skill and leave short feedback | Gathers submitted and missing work and recordings on one screen, and delivers feedback to students |
| 5. Teaching experience certificate | Download it once a year and use it in your rรฉsumรฉ or platform profile | Summarizes teaching period, number of students taught, and student level growth from the records, and attaches a link to verify it (coming soon) |
The materials and the app are linked by lesson number. If you taught lesson 3 of the materials, assign lesson 3 in the app. Students join with just a class code and their name. No installation, no sign-up, no payment. Class time is not spent creating accounts.
The students a teacher teaches each have different goals. International students preparing for exams, learners who started with Korean dramas, people about to travel, and even children seeing Hangul for the first time. LevelKorean materials are divided into five tracks by goal.
| Type | For whom | Now |
|---|---|---|
| 1. TOPIK ยท KIIP preparation | Learners preparing for exams and the Korea Immigration and Integration Program. 6 Hangul basics lessons and 96 full-course lessons (Beginner Level 1 to Level 6, advanced and practical life skills, vocabulary by topic) | Available |
| 2. 100 Key Korean Expressions | Foreign learners at a basic level. 100 one-phrase expressions that can carry a conversation, like ใ๊ด์ฐฎ์์ใ ("It's okay") and ใ๋ฐฅ ๋จน์์ด์?ใ ("Have you eaten?"), in 20 lessons with short videos | Available |
| 3. Act Out a K-Drama Scene | Learners who came to Korean through K-content. They repeat classic drama scenes, line by line | Available |
| 4. Places to Go ยท Things to Buy ยท Experiences in Korea | Learners about to travel or stay briefly. Language for places, shopping, and experiences | Coming soon |
| 5. Hangul Game Classes for Children | Children meeting Hangul for the first time. They learn letters and sounds through play | Coming soon |
Every piece of Korean on screen has its English meaning directly below it. Foreign learners pick up the meaning as they read along, and teachers do not need to prepare translations. English explanations in the videos are shown with Korean translations, so Korean teachers who are less comfortable with English can teach with them as they are.
Our content is not a curriculum one person made up. It follows the level-by-level achievement standards of the National Institute of Korean Language (NIKL) "Standard Korean Language Curriculum." It is a document completed through national research, and most Korean-language institutions in Korea and abroad use it as their reference.
| Standard framework | Scope | How the app reflects it |
|---|---|---|
| Levels | Levels 1โ6 | level_std attached to every lesson |
| Topic categories | 17 categories ยท 85 items | Chosen only within the categories, no free input |
| Functions | 5 categories ยท 52 items | Assigned as each lesson's communicative function |
| Vocabulary | Lists by level | Cumulative vocabulary per lesson enforced by a checking tool |
| Pronunciation | Focus by level | A pronunciation focus set for each lesson, presented with audio |
The National Institute of Korean Language (NIKL), which created the standard curriculum, and the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), which runs TOPIK, are separate government agencies. We build our content on the NIKL standard, and as a result, Level 1โ2 content naturally aligns with the scope of TOPIK I, and Level 3โ4 content with TOPIK II.
However, the two systems do not map one-to-one. TOPIK I is a listening and reading test, and speaking is assessed separately. This app is a tool you can use in the TOPIK I preparation stage, not a test-prep workbook. We did not use past exam questions or textbook passages as they are. We referred only to question types and difficulty, and made our own.
Hangul adds sound by adding strokes. Add one stroke to ใฑ and it becomes ใ , with a stronger puff of air. Add one stroke to ใ and it becomes ใ , with a y sound in front. Of the ten vowels, you only need to memorize six. The rule makes the rest.
Same place, stronger breath
Same sound, with a y added
One less thing to memorize
We built the whole curriculum on this principle. Each time learners meet a new grammar point, they do not start from scratch. They add one thing to a rule they already know.
| Lesson | What you learn | Where the rule comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Lesson 6 | -์/์ด์ (present) | ์์ if the stem vowel is ใ /ใ , otherwise ์ด์ |
| Lesson 9 | -์/์์ด์ (past) | The same stem rule as lesson 6 |
| Lesson 10 | -(์ผ)ใน ๊ฑฐ์์ (future) | The final-consonant rule โ continued from lesson 2 |
| Lesson 12 | -์/์ด์ (reason) | Reuses the lesson 6 stem rule |
| Lesson 15 | -์/์ด ์ฃผ์ธ์ (request) | Reuses the lesson 6 stem rule |
| Lesson 20 | -์/์์ผ๋ฉด ์ข๊ฒ ๋ค | Combines lesson 9 past + lesson 16 wish |
For each lesson, we record the letters and vocabulary learned so far. If a new item goes beyond that range, a checking tool filters it out at the production stage. In fact, we once added the question "๋ฌด์์ด ์์ด์?" ("What is there?") to lessons 3, 4, 6, and 7, and it was caught โ because the final consonant ใ in "๋ฌด์" ("what") first appears only in lesson 8. By design, learners never meet letters in a question that they cannot read yet.
The standard curriculum sets achievement standards for each of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our question types are divided into the same four tracks.
| Skill | Items | What the student does | Matching achievement standard (example) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 510 | Listen to native pronunciation and choose the matching letter, word, or expression | Level 1: โUnderstands utterances spoken slowly and clearlyโ |
| Speaking | 278 | Record and submit, then compare side by side with model pronunciation | Level 1: โIntroduces oneselfโ |
| Reading | 182 | Read signs, menus, and notices without sound and answer | Level 1: โReads and understands signs and information boardsโ |
| Writing | 198 | Put pieces in order to build sentences; free writing from Level 3 | Level 1: โWrites letters by combining consonants and vowelsโ |
We follow one principle. If you add audio to a reading item, it instantly becomes a listening item. If you show romanization, learners can answer without reading Hangul. So in all 182 reading items, we turned off audio and romanization. Learners must reach the meaning from the letters alone.
We did not replace writing with โchoose the correct sentence.โ That tests recognizing word order, not writing. We built a separate screen where learners tap pieces to stack them in the box above, and tap a misplaced piece to take it back down. We do not invent new sentences. Learners use sentences they already said out loud in that lesson โ in effect, rebuilding by hand what they said. From Level 3, free writing is added, where learners write short texts themselves. AI gives advice on the same three axes as TOPIK writing (content, structure, language use), and shows a minimally corrected version of the learner's text.
We will prove the word LMS with a single table. From opening a class to getting feedback back, we set side by side what students and teachers do, and what the system shows on screen and handles behind the scenes.
| Step | Student | Teacher | System โ on screen | System โ behind the scenes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Open a class | โ | Choose a class name and level (or KIIP stage) | Class code and student sign-up link issued instantly | Lessons matching the class level open automatically |
| 2 Join ยท approve | Open the link and apply with just a name | Approve everyone on the list at once | Student numbers (01, 02โฆ) issued | Minimal data โ no contact details or alien registration numbers |
| 3 Assign | โ | Choose lesson, skill (listening ยท speaking ยท reading ยท writing), and deadline; withdraw if assigned by mistake | Assignments stack up in class order | Assignments that students have already done are taken down, not deleted, to keep the record |
| 4 Study | Do assignments, and review anytime in free study | Add or remove free-study lessons | Progress and completion marks | Memory state for each item (spaced repetition) and learning events recorded |
| 5 Submit speaking | Record and submit, and get AI 3-axis feedback right away | โ | Task, language, and delivery scores with advice | Recording stored privately and linked to its assignment |
| 6 Teacher review | โ | In the submission box: play recordings ยท mark as checked ยท short feedback ยท request resubmission | Submitted/missing and accuracy on one screen | No more collecting recording files separately through messaging apps |
| 7 Feedback ยท review | Read the feedback, and redo wrong answers in the review queue the next day | Reflect the class's common mistakes in the next class | "Assign again" mark ยท today's review | The cycle of class โ record โ next class is complete |
Assigning (3) ยท submitting (4ยท5) ยท grading (5) ยท checking (6) ยท recording (every step) โ everything a university LMS does is here, plus what only a language class needs (pronunciation audio, speaking recordings, AI corrections). Regular Korean classes and Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) classes share this one flow.
Learning records are stored not as summaries but as individual events. Who, when, which item, whether it was correct, and how many seconds it took โ each is saved as one line and never deleted. Every level-tracking feature runs on this raw data.
| Feature | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Starting-level finder | After a new student answers a few items, it suggests which lesson to start from |
| Accuracy by skill | Looks at listening, speaking, reading, and writing separately, and sorts frequently missed items by error rate |
| Speaking, 3 axes | The same structure as TOPIK speaking scoring โ task completion ยท language use ยท pronunciation and delivery |
| Writing, 3 axes | From Level 3, gives advice on free writing by content ยท structure ยท language use, and shows a minimally corrected version |
| AI learning analysis | On the teacher's request, reads one student's records and summarizes strengths and suggestions for the next class (once a week per student) |
| Learning reference stage | The current stage estimated from assignment records. The screen notes that it is not an official level |
We do not assign a level based on accuracy in a single assignment. A level is a reference for the teacher in choosing the next class, not a report card that grades the student. Even if a student redoes an item and gets it right, the first wrong answer is not erased. What a student found hard at first is the most important information for the teacher.
The time a teacher spends teaching with LevelKorean stays on record. Once a year, we gather that record and summarize the teacher's teaching history on a single page.
| Item | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Teaching period | From the day the first class was opened to the last class record |
| Number of students taught | Students in the teacher's classes who did review at least once |
| Classes run and lessons taught | The class list and the lessons assigned |
| Student level growth | The difference between each student's starting level and current level, and the class average |
| Review activity | Number of items students answered, and number of speaking submissions |
Each certificate comes with a verification link. Anyone who opens that link can check that the certificate matches LevelKorean's records. If you include the link in your profile on international teaching platforms such as Preply ยท italki ยท AmazingTalker, or in an application to an institution, you can show your teaching experience through records, not just words.
The teaching experience certificate is not a qualification issued by the government or a public institution. It is a teaching history that LevelKorean confirms from its own records. The certificate says so as well. It includes no student names, only numbers.
In the future, we plan to offer a teacher profile page within LevelKorean for teachers who hold the Korean Language Teacher Certificate, if they wish. The goal is to let institutions and learners looking for teachers with verified experience and qualifications find them there.
Many teachers teach Korean on online teaching platforms like Preply ยท italki ยท AmazingTalker, which connect students and teachers around the world. These platforms connect teachers with students and handle classes and payments, but what to teach with is up to the teacher. That is exactly where LevelKorean aims to fit in, as the teacher's materials.
| Why it suits 1:1 online classes | Details |
|---|---|
| Share your screen once, and teach | The materials are web pages, so you can use them right away by sharing your screen in the platform's video class. Every slide includes native pronunciation and video. |
| English meanings included | Students from all over the world follow along with the English meanings. |
| Materials for each student's goal | Pick the class a student wants right away, such as exam prep, basic expressions, or K-dramas. |
| Levels aligned with the national standard | The materials follow Levels 1โ6 of the NIKL standard curriculum, so it is easy to tell a student their level in a trial lesson. |
LevelKorean materials come with review. Give students that day's review after class, and they redo the same lesson in the app. The teacher then sends the review score and short feedback through the platform's messages.
Students see for themselves how far they have come, and feel that their teacher is paying attention even outside class. That experience leads to booking the next class. Teachers gain long-term classes with the same student, and students gain study that does not break off.
LevelKorean is independent material and is not affiliated with these platforms. Each platform has rules about outside links and contact details, so do not send links before the first lesson is paid for (Preply), and do not advertise LevelKorean in your profile description (italki). Always keep classes and payments inside the platform, and use LevelKorean only as review material for students you have taught. Rules can change, so please also check each platform's latest guidelines.
The Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) is a national program in which immigrants learn Korean language and culture (stages 0โ4) and understanding of Korean society (stage 5). In August 2026, we added a separate classroom for KIIP classes on top of the same learning engine. Content and the scoring and record-keeping features are shared with regular classes, but how students join and how the classroom is run are different.
| Feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Opening a class | The teacher signs in with a Google account and chooses a class name and KIIP stage. A class code and student sign-up link appear right away. |
| Student joining | Students open the link and just write their name. That is all. No sign-up, no password. A student number (01, 02โฆ) is issued, and they start once the teacher approves them on the list. |
| Assignments | Choose the lesson you taught and assign it to the whole class. You can choose the skill (listening ยท speaking ยท reading ยท writing), the deadline, and whether to hide answer hints, and you can withdraw an assignment made by mistake. |
| Recording submission box | Students' speaking recordings are gathered by assignment. The teacher plays them on one screen and leaves a check mark, short feedback, or a resubmission request. No more collecting recording files separately through messaging apps. |
| Free study | Lessons for the class's stage are open from the start, so the student's screen is never empty even on days without assignments. The teacher controls which lessons stay open. |
| Changing devices | When students change phones, they keep their previous records with the class code and student number. |
The names of KIIP's Korean-language stages match the level names in the standard curriculum โ Beginner 1 ยท Beginner 2 ยท Intermediate 1 ยท Intermediate 2. So the two systems connect naturally.
| KIIP stage | App content | Type of match |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 0 ยท Basic | Level 1, lessons 1โ2 (Hangul consonants and vowels ยท final consonants and sounds) | Direct match โ same scope of letter learning |
| Stages 1โ4 | Standard Levels 1โ4, 12 lessons each | Level match โ overlapping grammar and topics |
| Stage 5 ยท Understanding Korean Society | No matching content | Under consideration |
The LevelKorean KIIP Classroom does not replace official Korea Immigration and Integration Program classes or required class hours. It is a class support tool that lets teachers assign extra work after class and check learning results. The stage links are reference values aligned to the standard levels, and do not map one-to-one to the sessions in the official textbooks. We did not use any passages, questions, or audio from the official textbooks.
We collect even less personal information here. We store only names and learning records, and do not collect alien registration numbers, passport numbers, contact details, or visa status information. This is our principle for the pilot stage.
These features are complete and in real use.
These are not built yet, or are still being built. We will not talk about them as if they exist.
It is not an app from an app store but a website you open in a browser. No installation is needed, and if you know the address, it opens on any device. We designed it on the assumption that teachers use the materials on a computer screen and students do their review on a phone.
| Item | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| What we collect | A display name (a nickname is fine), right or wrong and time taken for each item, and speaking recordings. We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or dates of birth. |
| Separation by class | Access rules are built into the database itself, so teachers can see only the records of classes they created. This is enforced by the system's structure, not by setting permissions by hand. |
| Voice | We ask for consent before recording, and show the purpose, retention period, and how to delete on screen. Students who do not want to record are given an alternative task. |
| Join codes | They are randomly generated and can be reissued at any time. However, they are a way to enter, not a way to verify identity โ for assessments that require strict identity checks, we recommend a separate procedure. |
| KIIP classes | We store only names and learning records. We do not collect alien registration numbers, passport numbers, contact details, or visa status information. |
| Connections | All communication uses encrypted connections, and server access keys are handled only on the server. |
Learning records are append-only, with no edits or deletions. Even if a student redoes an item and gets it right, we do not erase the record of the first wrong answer. What a student found hard at first is the most important information for the teacher.
